4 Tips to Make Windows 7 Boot Faster

Use MSConfig

Have you ever heard of MSConfig? When you boot a computer, this tool manages many features of the behavior of your computer. Follow the below mentioned steps to use MSConfig:
1. Press ‘Win+R’. You can find ‘Win’ key next to ‘Alt’ key. By pressing this combination, the following dialog box will be displayed:
using msconfig
In case there is no ‘Win’ key on the keyboard or you cannot find one, go to search bar of Start menu. Type ‘run’. Hit ‘Enter’.
2. Go to the dialog. Type ‘msconfig’. Hit ‘Enter‘. This will display MSConfig screen. There is a‘Startup’ tab. Click on it. In case you come across a program that is not required to start whenWindows is booted, clear its checkbox.

The services which are not required can be disabled by clicking on ‘Services’ tab. You must disable the services which are not required. Otherwise certain important functions can be disabled from your operating system. However, you can enable these by using the same procedure.
3. In case you use more than one operating system on the computer and the boot sequence is managed through the existing Windows installation, check out ‘Boot’ tab. Go to ‘Timeout’. Type a smaller number. The time is set at 30 seconds by default. This improves the speed of your computer.

Device Manager

A loading screen will appear in Windows. It will display ‘Starting Windows‘. The important services and drivers of the device are loaded by your operating system. Few drivers can be disabled to increase  the loading speed. For this, device manager has to be entered in Windows 7:
1. Click on ‘Start’ menu. Click ‘Control Panel’.

2. Now click on ‘Hardware and Sound’.
3. Go to ‘Devices & Printers’ and click on ‘Device Manager’. All devices that are attached to the system will be displayed in a window. Drivers have to be loaded by Windows for every device.

4. Check out the categories of any device. Choose the devices that are not to be used. Right-click the device. Click ‘Disable’.
The drivers for the specific drive will be ignored. Make sure that the devices which are required by the computer are not disabled such as display adapter or network interface.

Delay Services

You require many services of Window’s startup. In case you do not want to disable a service, delay it. If you delay it, the service will be ignored by Windows till the time you do not get enough resources to start it. Once the booting is finished, the delayed service is loaded by Windows. The services can also be put on hold. Go to Administrative Tools and check out ‘Services‘ dialog.
1. Click on ‘Start’ menu. Click ‘Control Panel‘.
2. Click on ‘System & Security’ followed by a click on ‘Administrative Tools’.

3. This opens a window. Look for ‘Services’. Double-click it. This displays a list of services. Right-click on the service that you wish to delay. Click on ‘Properties’, as shown in the screenshot below.

4. There is a drop-down menu near ‘Startup Type’. Click on ‘Automatic (Delayed)‘. You should not follow this process for the services whose startup type is ‘manual’. If you do so, it will only add unnecessary services to your computer. This is explained in the screenshot below.

5. Click on ‘OK‘. This process can be repeated whenever you want.

Hardware Upgrades

You might require a hardware for the computer. There are various upgrades available. These include a solid state drive and an additional RAM. The input as well as the output capacity of the system will be raised per second by the upgrades. Boot process will be improved by higher or faster RAM.

The functions of a hard drive depend upon the electrical parts. That is why it is a slow aspect of the computer. If you feel that the hard drive is slowing down the computer, you must get a solid state drive. It comprises of memory cells and transistors. These drives are very fast than a standard hard drive. However, these drives can perform slowly with decompression/algorithmic file processing. These give you a faster boot time.
Boot time is not affected by the processor. However, the processor can slow down the speed of your system. This can be checked. Press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC to open the task manager. You can nowkeep a track of the CPU usage. If CPU usage is shown at 100%, get a new one.
The socket number for your CPU and motherboard should be the same. If you are using an advanced CPU, your motherboard might need a replacement. This upgrade is a must. Do it as soon as possible to get a better Windows experience.
