If your computer has a printer attached to it, check out the printer sharing option. Turn it on. The users who are on your home network can send print commands to your printer.
You must ensure that your computer is always connected with the network and is turned on.
But what if you wish to share your printer with the users who are not on the home network? For example, your friends are away from the city and can still send print commands to the printer on the internet. Again, make sure that your printer is attached to your computer.
Your printer can be shared over the internet. There is no need to install a separate software or make changes in the router/firewall permissions. No admin intervention is required. You only need to install an application, PrinterShare, on the machines from where the print command will be sent and to which it will be sent.
Once the installation of the software is complete, select the printer that has to be shared. You can give and receive print commands around the internet. It works very well on Linux, Macs and Windowsand is free to use.
Go to http://www.printershare.com/ and download the installer of 1.6MB. Launch it. Various download links are available for Mac, Linux and Windows.
To share your printer over the internet, you have to make a user account. Select ‘Create New PrinterShare Account’ and hit ‘Next’. The screenshot below displays these instructions.
You only need to give details of your email address and nickname. Your email address should be functional as the password will be sent to this email id.
This completes the installation. Now you need to configure the application. Check the box to open PrinterShare console. The box will open automatically. Else, go to system tray or start menu and open it.
A user number will be given to you which is required to connect with your remote client. You can also view each installed printer. Simply select the printer that you wish to use. Click on ‘Share’ button as shown below. As soon as it is clicked, it will turn to Unshare.
Check your email. You will see the password. The client can be installed on the machine by using it. You simply need to follow the above mentioned steps. When the application asks for a username and a password, enter the details.
Once you are complete with the process, click on ‘find printers’. Fill the user ID. Click on ‘find’. The shared printer will be displayed along with its status. Now double click it.
The following screenshot shows the shared printer. You can test it with a printing command.
PrinterShare is now available which can be accessed from any program.
