How To Use KDE’s Netbook-Optimized Interface [Linux]

Linux desktop has many useful features. The best feature is that you can customize each aspect of your computer. You can have a fast and very light desktop. You can also get a powerful and flashy desktop. KDE is a commonly used desktop environment that offers a wide range of customization features. It also offers a netbook optimized interface for Linux.

The Problem And The Solution

The desktop interface offered by KDE is very appealing, powerful and flashy. But it has very small buttons which makes it difficult to use a netbook. This is a common problem in various desktop-optimized interfaces. Whereas the buttons are larger if you use a netbook-optimized interfaces. You can see those clearly and use them properly.

KDE has introduced a netbook interface which has made it very easy to use netbooks and other related devices. You get the same flashy desktop interface look. It is very impressive and makes optimum use of your screen.

Use KDE’s Netbook-Optimized Interface
To get a netbook-optimized interface, you must install KDE first. KDE spins are present in certain distributions like openSUSE, Fedora, Kubuntu etc. These use KDE by default too. Go to the menu.Choose ‘System Settings’. Go to ‘Workspace Behavior’. Select ‘Workspace’. Choose Netbookworkspace type. You only need to wait for a while. This loads a new interface.

About The Netbook-Optimized Interface

Panel

You can see the opened applications in full screen. If you are not able to search the Close/Quit button on the interface of the program, take your mouse to the upper right corner. You will get the ‘Close’ button.
The top panel has the similar items as that of the bottom panel. It comprises of tray icons and the running applications. Running applications can be seen in “x running applications”. Here, x represents the number. The screenshot below shows the panel.

Pages

Use KDE’s Netbook-Optimized Interface
The screen has two pages on its top left: Page One and Search & Launch. Different screens can be organized with the help of these pages. Page One is a custom page. It comprises of widgets which can be added and removed whenever you want. Search & Launch has the buttons which are required to launch an app.

If you go to the left corner at the bottom, you will see a small cashew. Click on it. You will get a list of options which can be used to manipulate your widgets and pages. You can add or delete the complete pages. The page gives enough space for the widgets. You can use all your favorite widgets here.
